Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees in Uganda: Uganda has a wide variety of attractions. However, the most thought after are the endangered mountain gorillas. Many safaris to Uganda are considered incomplete without gorilla tracking; gorilla safari activity has attracted a huge number of people who jet in to the country to have a glance at our closest relatives the gorillas who shares almost 97% of human DNA make-up.

In Uganda gorillas inhabit the impenetrable forest of Bwindi national park and Mgahinga gorilla forest national park. Many gorilla trackers to Uganda prefer tracking in Bwindi national park. By the time of writing,  the park has 13 gorilla families. Which are readily available to receive visitors on a daily basis. And Mhahinga gorilla forest national park has only one gorilla family called Nyakagezi.

Gorilla Families

In each gorilla family only 8 people are allowed to track the endangered mountain gorillas each year. In order to be among the eight people to track the gorillas, you must poses the gorilla tracking permit. The gorilla permit costs usd700 per person per tracking both in Bwindi and Mgahinga national park, the gorilla fee includes the ranger guide and Park entrance fee.

The gorilla permit gives you the chance to stay with the gorillas for only one hour. While observing and learning their behaviors. The gorilla permits are sold at the Uganda wildlife authority its headquarters are in Kamwokya Kampala. We can help you to book the gorilla permits. And also organize for you the all gorilla safari with no extra fee. However if you need to book you only the gorilla permit without using our services. We will charge a fee of usd50 per gorilla permit booked.

Uganda is one of the few countries in the world where you can share the love of gorillas with that of chimps. Many tourists to Uganda come to see the primates and gorillas in their natural habitat. Chimpanzees are the closest relatives to human sharing almost 98% of human genes. Kibale forest national parks, Kyambura Gorge, budongo forest national park, Kaniyo papid are among the places in Uganda where chimps are inhabited. Chimps are fabulous fun to enjoy watching while jumping from tree to tree.

Chimpanzee

The trek to see the chimps is unpredictable, like mountain gorilla trekking, since they are wild animals, they move freely in their natural habitat. The trek may go from 1-6 hours and once they are met you are only allowed one hour with them. Sharing the love of gorillas with that of chimps is regarded as a moment in life very difficult to forget. Kibale forest national park is known for housing the highest percentage of chimpanzees, over 5000 chimps live in this park plus many other primate species including the black and white colobus monkeys, baboons, civet monkeys, gre checked mangbay, L’Hoest monkey among many others. Chimp permits in Kibale forest national park cost USD 200 and in other places chimpanzee cost USD 100. You can book the chimp permit before your arrival or at the park headquarters.
